The Way to Connect iPhone/iPad to Your TV

Do you curious on how to connect your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad to your TV? Apple provides you two choices; through cable or streaming by Wi-Fi. Then you can follow these steps:

VIA CABLE

Apple provides 4 cable adapters for TV:

Composite Adapter

Its shape just like what you find in standard tube TV 4:3. It has dock port at the tip, an USB cable for power and/or sync and RCA plugs at the other tip for stereo sound(white and red) and for video(yellow).

The way to use it:

  • Pair the dock connector on your iDevice
  • Pair the USB connector to A/C power adapter or Windows/Mac PC
  • Pair RCA cable to your TV port
  • Set your TV on the right chanel(Video or AUX)
  • Run the video-out app, like iPod, Netflix, Air Video, etc
  • Done!

Component Adapter

It’s use to TV which appear in transition, such as analog TV that has high resolution. This adapter has dock port at tyhe tip, an USB cable for power and/or sync, RCA plugs at the other tip for stereo sound(white and red), and Y, Pb, Pr video(red, green, blue).

The way to use it:

  • Pair the dock connector on your iDevice
  • Pair the USB connector to A/C power adapter or Windows/Mac PC
  • Pair RCA cable to your TV port
  • Set your TV on the right chanel(Video or AUX)
  • Run the video-out app, like iPod, Netflix, Air Video, etc
  • Done!

VGA Adapter

This adapter is used for old version of TV, computer, and projector which support VGA standard. It has dock port at the tip and VGA plug at the other for video. This adapter doesn’t have audio plug, so you have to add 3.5mm in RCA stereo adapter. This cable can run video app only(like iPod, Air Video, etc).

The way to use it:

  • Pair dock connector to your iDevice
  • Pair the VGA connector to VGA port on your TV
  • Set our TV to the suitable input(PC or VGA)
  • Mirror video in iPad 2 or run the video-out app(iPod,Keynote)
  • If you want to hear the audio, set the 3.5mm jeadset in RCA stereo audio adapter to the audio port on your TV
  • Done!

HDMI Adapter

Also called as Apple Digital AV Adapter. It’s the latest cable version from Apple and support the newest model of standard TV up to 1080p. This cable has dock port at the top and dock pass-through for charging. In iPad 2, HDMI cable can support Video Mirroring so you’re able to show what’s on Home Screen and all apps on your TV screen.  In the old device model(include iPhone 4), only video app that can run with this cable(such as iPod, Air Video, etc.).

The way to use it:

  • Set dock connector to your iDevice
  • Set HDMI cable on TV to the HDMI port in adapter
  • Set the dock cable in dock port adapter to the USB port on your Mac/Windows PC or A/C adapter for charging(if needed)
  • Set your TV to the suitable input(HDMI 1, HDMI 2)
  • Mirror video in iPad 2 or run the video-out app(iPod,Keynote)
  • Done!

VIA Wi-Fi STREAMING (AirPlay)

iOS 4.2 has AirVideo which allows you to streaming app on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to your TV via Apple. When iOS 4.3 release, all apps support AirPlay. Apple TV needs HDMI on the HDTV, but if you won’t be busy with this cable, then you can follow these steps:

  • Run your iPod or YouTube(or other video app under iOS 4.3)
  • Search the video that you like
  • Tap the AirPlay button
  • Choose the Apple TV on list
  • Done!
